CORK

Cork is the outer bark of the cork oak tree and is found mainly in Portugal, Spain, southern France, Italy, and North Africa. .

The cork bark can be 'stripped' off allowing new bark to grow in its place without killing or damaging the trees. This makes every tree a renewable source of raw material. Cork is harvested from each tree every 9 to 10 years until the tree is approximately 200 years old. The cork oak tree produces off-spring naturally by dropping acorns that seed themselves and eventually mature into productive full grown trees.
